Report: Zostera (seagrass): Studies on the decline — Lower Saxony Wadden Sea (1993)»
Description
In the summer of 1993, studies on seagrass death in the Wadden Sea of Lower Saxony began. As part of a comprehensive mapping of the stocks of Zostera marina and Zostera noltii, the deposits in the area of jade and ewes were first recorded and plant material for biomass determination, investigation of epiphytic growing organisms and for the analysis of possible symptoms of damage were obtained. [...] Studies on herbicide entries into the Wadden Sea ecosystem and the infestation of seagrass plants with phytopathogenic microorganisms have been carried out in sub-projects of this study to clarify the possible causes of the decline in the population. The question of the extent to which there are links between seagrass loss and the change of natural or anthropogenic factors is not yet to be answered on the basis of the available data.
