Report: «Salzwiese: Ecological study – Western Jadebusen (Cäciliengroden – Dangast) (1992)»
Description
The main dike between Cäciliengroden and Dangast has a considerable understick and is therefore to be increased and reinforced from 1996. With this reinforcement, a widening of the dyke base is also provided, resulting in a need for additional area. As part of the construction law procedure, it is examined whether mainly internal dyke or external dyke areas are to be used for this purpose. [...] A total of 28.5 ha of salt meadows would be claimed when building variant A, whereas for variant B only 13.0 ha would be claimed. In the context of the assessment of the environmental compatibility of these variants, it will have to be taken into account from formal aspects that the salt marshes in western Jadebusen belong to the rest zone (zone 1) of the National Park “Lower Saxony Wadden Sea” [...] In the period from May to October 1992, surveys from May to October 1992 were carried out on an approximately 50 m wide salt marshes strip in front of the existing dyke foot with the objective of an ecological assessment based on indicator groups. [...] Floristic and vegetation studies were carried out in the first half of July 1992.
