“This thesis contains a compilation of studies carried out so far on the occurrence, distribution and stock development of benthos organisms in the focus area of ecosystem research as well as in neighbouring areas (Norderney, Mellum). The inventory forms the basis for future comparative studies of different disciplines and should be continued during the duration of the ecosystem research project. [...]
Method: In the inventory, published and unpublished results of benthos mappings were recorded. As far as possible, the original protocols of the field work were evaluated in order to record many ecological accompanying parameters. [...] Data collection focuses on the focus area of ecosystem research, the catchment area of the Otzumer Balje (between Langeoog and Spiekeroog); in addition, data from the neighbouring areas of Mellum and the Norderneyer Inselwatt were used. A total of 34 papers on the distribution and stock development of benthos organisms (microphyto, macrophyto, meio- and macrozoobenthos) from 1940 to 1990 were evaluated. [...]’
