Report: “Spartina townsendii: Land reclamation; Fauna landing zone; Ems estuary (1970)»

Description

In 1952/53, a long-term attempt was initiated at Manslagt (Emsmündung) on the land-promoting influence of Schlickgrass, Spartina townsendii. Two land recovery fields were planted with cuttings and left to themselves, while the neighbouring comparison fields were regularly crippled. [...] In 1970, a review should be taken. The crippled fields were now overgrown with Queller. In the Spartina field, the cuttings had expanded to Horsten, but any propagation and thus an expansion of Spartina had remained. From the mere sight, it was impossible to distinguish whether the fields planted or the crippled fields were at an advanced stage. A clear difference in altitude was not detectable. Therefore, the question was tried to answer with the help of a soil physics (RAGUTZKI 1973) and a biological examination. Sampling took place in May and June 1970. [...] Result: It is a somewhat surprising result that the colonisation of animals in both is quite identical, only the beds of the crippled fields stand out by local colonisation with Bledius for a nuance than more advanced. Zoologically, the experimental fields are at the same succession level. RAGUTZKI (1973) was able to give a more differentiated judgment based on the soil physics studies: The crippled fields are clearly characterised by more favourable sediment conditions.[...]
