Report: “Meiozoobenthos: EMS zoning brackish water area with nematode fauna (1952/53)’
Description
The superficial sediment layer within the mesohaline brackish water zone of the Ems was zoned according to sample series taken in the months of May 1952, August 1952 and January 1953 on the route between the East Giant Gatje and Hilkenborg near Weener, on the basis of the dominant nematode species found therein with limited ecological valence.
The mean lower boundary of the mesohaline brackish water body near the ground could not be correctly detected with the method.
The brackish water zone is located east of Emden’s outer port in summer. It shifts in winter to the area east of the Knock.
The middle upper boundary of the mesohaline brackish water body near the ground is approximately at the height of empty place. Further upstream, the riverbed has an increasing oligohalin character.
