Summary:
The present study is dealing with intertidal sediments, vegetation and bottom fauna of an area in the Weser estuary near Nordenham and Bremerhaven, which since 1969 has received waste water from a titanium dioxide factory. A comparison is made between the ecological situation in 1968 – before the beginning of the discharge – and in 1980. Summary and conclusion:
The present study deals with sediment properties, shore vegetation and eulitoral soil fauna of an estuary area, which has been absorbing effluents from a titanium dioxide plant since 1969. The situation of 1980 is compared with the situation prior to the beginning of the introduction, which was recorded in a baseline investigation of 1968.
