Report: Macrozoobenthos: Norderney (1976-1985)»
Description
As part of a long-term program in the East Frisian Watt south of Norderney, the stock fluctuations of the macrozoobenthos are investigated. According to a previous report on dominant species (DÖRJES et al. 1986) shows the fluctuations of non-dominant species between 1976 and 1985. Samples of sediment and soil fauna were regularly collected at four permanent stations in protected sand watts of different altitudes. The species community belongs to the Macoma balthica community as a “watt variant” and includes, some indefinite nemertines not counted 35 species. The Annelids are the strongest group of 18 species, followed by 9 molluscs, 7 Crustaceas and one insect species. In addition to a base of six to eight dominant species, which contribute 80 to 90 % of the total abundance and biomass (DÖRJES et al. 1986), a group of twelve more or less regularly occurring non-dominant species represents the remaining 10 to 20 %. Their seasonal stock fluctuations are also particularly influenced by singular events such as frost periods and storms. Fundamental structural changes are still little noticeable over the period of ten years. In the case of some species, there is an increase in population densities.
