Summary article on long-term changes in zoobenthos in the Wadden Sea. A historical overview of the benthic research in the Wadden Sea is given, as well as the current state of knowledge about the composition of the sublitoral fauna of gutters and shallow water areas and the fauna of the tidal zone in the Wadden Sea. Causes of stock changes are discussed and the attempt to make a long-term forecast.
