Description

» At the Cappeler Tief on the Wurster coast, there were 1957 Investigations carried out to investigate the causes find out for the progressive foreshore demolitions and recommendations for the protection of this Work out the coastal section. The recommendations were made to create land recovery fields along the endangered route, which was already implemented in 1958. Until 1965, MÜLLER has, at annual intervals, Further development was studied, after which a Study in 1970 and another 1977/78. At that time, although the landfills were largely closed, they were still in a stage before the final landing. Also at present — 1983 — the decisive step to a height above MThw has not yet taken place. This report is an interim report on long-term development.” In the present study the development of sedimentation fields is described with regard to the elevation of surface level, the change in sediment properties, the settlement of a pioneer vegetation and the successive changes in benthic faunal composition. The fields are located near Cappeler Tief in the lower reaches of the Weser estuary. The system of Groynes surrounding the fields was constructed in 1958 in order to protect an eroding cliff of an old saltmarsh against further breaking off. Until 1961 regular draining was carried out by supporting an artificial system of ditches. During the first twenty years of observation (1958-1978) seven surveys have been made.
