“[...] The main task of the project presented here was the practical testing and standardisation of investigation and evaluation methods for macrozoobenthos in the transition and coastal waters of Lower Saxony in order to implement the EC Water Framework Directive. The NLWKN Brake-Oldenburg conducted extensive sampling campaigns for the detection of macrozoobenthos communities for this practical test in autumn 2006 and in spring and autumn 2007 in the Eu- and Sublitoral of the Lower Saxony coastal and transitional waters of Weser and Ems. In addition to testing for practicality, optimisation and coordination of sampling methods, another objective was to define monitoring stations by selecting representative ecotopes. The data obtained on the macrozoobenth communities have been used for the assessment of the sampled water bodies in accordance with the European Water Framework Directive and have also been understood as a compaction in addition to existing data sets.”
