Report: “Continuity South Beach Pole – Norderney (2009)”
Description
“The improvement of the continuity of siel or creation plants for the unhindered exchange of organisms and for the development of brackish water habitats is part of the catalogue of measures to improve the ecological status of the coastal and transitional waters of Lower Saxony in the context of the implementation of the EC WARL. Since 1980, several biological studies have been carried out in connection with the development of a brackish water habitat in the Southern Strandpolder water system on Norderney. Since 2005, a controlled sea water inflow has been permitted in the Sielteich area during the summer half year as part of a compensation measure. Based on previous studies, this report describes the evolution of the habitat until the introduction of the new Sielmanagement. The changes in the physical conditions in the Sielteich after changes in the siel management were documented using water level (2007) and salinity measurements (2005-2006). In the summer of 2008, water-chemical analyses (pH, salinity) and benthic macrofauna were carried out at eleven positions in the Sielteich. In addition, the presence of fish and vagilous benthos species was recorded on the basis of trappings. [...]’
