Description
Aerial images are a photographic image of the landscape. They show a real picture of all objects visible from a bird’s eye view, such as the road network, the development, the waters and the vegetation, as well as site-unbound objects such as cars, which were in the recorded place at the time of the recording. Due to the special imaging conditions (central perspective), an aerial image, unlike a map, does not have an exact uniform scale. When photographed from the air, positional deviations arise due to the differences in altitude in the terrain. These increase sharply towards the edge of the picture. Due to computational equalisation and digital image processing, digital orthophotos (DOPs) are created from the original aerial images, which map the Earth’s surface to scale and georeference.
