Chemical control by government agencies, 1992-2018
Description
Within the framework of environmental statistics, CBS collects figures on the use of chemical pesticides by government agencies.
The use of pesticides is useful in the management of public areas, but also poses an environmental hazard. Public institutions can be expected to lead by example. The public institutions concerned are: municipalities, water boards, provincial institutions, Rail Infrabeheer, Rijkswaterstaat and the Ministry of Defence. All these authorities are active in land management.
The Pesticide Use table shows the total use of resources by group of public institutions, but also the use by group of substances, such as insects, or weeds. The use shall be expressed in kilograms of active substance, a percentage of the commercial product. For weed control, the use is shown for the main substances in size. The data are further grouped by application sector, such as planting, sports fields and hardening.
Data available from 1992 to 2018
Frequency: irregular, once every 3 to 6 years. Frequency per 4 is sought.
Status of the figures:
All figures are final.
Amendments as of 21 March 2023:
None, this table has been discontinued.
Amendment as at 31 March 2022:
The underlying codes of the classifications (Pesticides) used in this table have been adjusted.
These are now in line with the standard codes laid down by CBS.
The structure and data of the table have not been adjusted.

The figures for 2018 have been added. Municipalities have been estimated with similar municipalities from the statistics on land use.

— municipalities have been updated with response data from 2009 and data from (by province and size class) comparable municipalities from the soil use statistics.
When will there be new figures?
No longer applicable. Almost all professional use of plant protection products outside agriculture is prohibited.
