What do you see? This map shows the soil carbon stock in the top 30 cm of the soil for the whole of the Netherlands, based on the combinations of land use and soil type. This map gives a good overview of where carbon stocks are in the soil in the Netherlands, the highest stocks are in areas with peat soils, while the lowest stocks are in areas with sandy soils. What’s the value? This map forms the basis for further studies/cards that determine potential carbon sequestration in the Dutch soil. Who is this important to? This map is important for policy makers and researchers involved in climate mitigation (carbon sequestration), but also for the agricultural sector where soil organic matter is an important indicator of soil quality.
