ORCA Southampton-Cowes surveys
Description
A team of four trained volunteers including at least one experienced observer searched for cetaceans from a ferry crossing the Solent between Southampton, mainland UK and Cowes, Isle of Wight. Two observers searched 180 degrees forward with a combination of binoculars and the naked eye while one observer recorded the ship's location, speed, course and weather information every 30 minutes or whenever weather conditions changed. Observers rotated every 30 minutes.
