The basic idea is an app to supplement the geography and economics lessons at different school levels. The app is tailored to the curriculum (or even better to a specific textbook) to give students an easy start. In case of cooperation with a publisher, the app can be considered as an extension app to a specific textbook series.
The content conveyed through the app should aim to repeat/consolidate the learned material and provide further information for interested students. In addition to the material taught in class (e.g. birth rate and population of Austria or migration movements), additional graphics and values about Upper Austria can be consumed.
The app should offer the following features:
Display of different maps (orthophoto, topographic, satellite) Display of content with map (climate zone(s), rock types, etc.) Display of content without map (e.g. birth rate, age distribution, etc.) on different time levels.
In order to create a further incentive and added value for the users, the app also includes mini-games to arouse / strengthen the interest in geography in general. Possible mini-games:
Determination of objects on a blind map (state, district, city, district, own position, rivers, mountains, soil type, recording the peculiarity of Austrian landscapes on maps, air and satellite images).
Geo quiz
The target group of the app are students in the school years after elementary school until graduation (Matura level). Interested students can use the app to delve a little deeper into the subject matter by consuming additional information about the region (state-specific data). However, you can also repeat Austria-wide material (summary of data from all federal states).
Especially in the 7th. School level (3 grades) and 11. School level (7 class), where Austria is the focus of attention, the use of the app is suitable.
In the tablet classes, it is of course conceivable to use the app in the classroom.
However, not only students can benefit from this idea. A textbook publisher could take its first step into digital learning. This publisher would occupy the market early and thus secure a competitive advantage over the competition. In the textbooks, corresponding references to certain contents / teaching units could be accommodated in the app.
