Markesteen

Description

This map shows the markestones in Drenthe. The Boermarke, Marke or Mark(e)(Society) is an ancient association of a group of landowners who manage the common property of those landowners. The word marke is also used to indicate the area that belongs to a village. Marke literally means border or separation.
