Flooding – Water depth in extreme rainfall rural (2018)

Description

This map shows the result of a stress test for the rural area of South Holland. The map provides insight into where flooding is likely to occur after an extreme shower of 100 millimetres in 2 hours. The stress test of the rural area was carried out with 2D terrain models (3Di) built from the filtered and interpolated General Height Map Netherlands (AHN2 and AHN3), information on land use (for friction) and about soil (for infiltration). The resolution of the results is 0.25 m². For the urban area, integral models have been used for various municipalities in which the sewage system is also included (put on the low model information for this purpose and click on the map for additional information). In the 2D terrain models, the flow over the ground level and the water distribution via the waterways at a high level of detail are taken into account. The precise operation of sewers and works of art in the water system (divers, thrusters and mills) has not been included or simplified in the model (Stress Test Spatial Adaptation). It is therefore possible that the presented flooding is not always recognised in practice (to that extent). Therefore, no rights can be derived from absolute values. However, the results give an initial indication of the expected nuisance locations in the event of heavy precipitation. On the basis of model checks carried out, it is also indicated where there is a possible over- or underestimation of the flooding (turn on the low model control). For buildings (source: Bag) a floor level of 15 cm above ground level has been adopted in the terrain model. The underflow of buildings via thresholds has not been taken into account, as detailed information of threshold height is still lacking.
