Territory division Regions
Description
Regions are areas of about 500 to 1000 square kilometres. Well-known regions include Twente, Salland and the Kop van Overijssel. Different names are sometimes used for regions. For example, the Kop van Overijssel is also called Land van Vollenhove or Northwest Overijssel. Regions have a clear regional cohesion in terms of landscape and culture. This classification corresponds in most cases to the larger physico-geographical landscape units, because the former cultural landscape was in many cases heavily dependent on geology, relief, soil and natural water management.
