Reclamation catchments, Soil Contamination Act (MST)
Description
The data set contains catchment areas outside areas with special drinking water interests (OSD) in accordance with the Soil Contamination Act. In accordance with the Soil Contamination Act, catchment areas outside the OSD are demarcated in order to ensure that the regions prioritise public clean-up efforts within catchment areas for public waterworks and the OSD.
The Danish Environmental Protection Agency delineates catchment areas for general waterworks. This is done by establishing hydrological models where all hydrological parameters are included as a starting point. When the region establishes a remediation pumping that affects a catchment area for a general waterworks, the remediation pumping will be included in the model. In a model run, the remediation well forms its own catchment area. The deterrent drilling will thus no longer be contained in the catchment area of the general waterworks. In so far as the remediation drilling is no longer included in the boundaries of a catchment area, the area is no longer part of the action areas resulting from Section 6 of the Soil Contamination Act. When the remediation pumping is thereby stopped, the expansion of the catchment area will once again encircle the pollution, and the entire catchment area is again part of a public area of action.
This problem has led the Environmental Protection Agency to decide that so-called catchment areas outside the OSD must be listed in accordance with the Soil Contamination Act, with the aim of ensuring that the regions are able to maintain buffer pumping as part of the public effort within catchment areas for public waterworks outside the OSD. The catchment area under the Soil Contamination Act is recorded as the association amount of the catchment area affected and not affected by remediation pumping.
