Inventory of Natural Areas of Ecological, Fauna and Flora Interest - Znieff

Description

Launched in 1982, the inventory of Natural Areas of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF) aims to identify and describe, throughout the national territory, sectors of greater ecological interest housing heritage biodiversity with a view to creating a knowledge base but also a decision-making tool (protection of space, spatial planning). This inventory covers, both on land and at sea, metropolitan France and the overseas departments, as well as Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. There are two types of ZNIEFF: - ZNIEFF type I: ecologically homogeneous spaces, defined by the presence of species, associations of species or rare habitats, remarkable or characteristic of the regional natural heritage. These are the most remarkable areas of the territory; - ZNIEFF type II: spaces that integrate functional and landscaped natural ensembles, possessing a high cohesion and richer than the surrounding environments.
