Public finances; Key figures 1995-2023
Description
This table contains some important data on the finances of the general government sector. The terms used are in line with the National Accounts. The national accounts are based on the international definitions of the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). The transaction time determines the time of booking. There may be temporary differences with the publications of the National Accounts due to the fact that the published figures of the government accounts are sometimes more up-to-date.
In this publication, there is a difference because updated information on the Emergency Bridging Employment Measure (NOW) has temporarily been processed differently in the national accounts than in the government accounts. The national accounts are back in line with the government accounts as at 24 June 2024.

Annual data from 1995 to 2023, quarterly data from 1999 to 2023.
Status of figures:
The figures in this table are final for the period 1995-2020. The 2021 quarters have the status provisionally. The annual figures for 2021 have the status definitive. Figures for 2022 and 2023 are provisional.
As this table has been discontinued, the data will no longer be finalised.
