Description
Provincial States of North Brabant have the obligation under the Water Framework Directive and the Groundwater Directive to protect groundwater that is now and for the future suitable for the extraction of drinking water. The unconventional extraction of hydrocarbons poses risks that threaten the quality of groundwater for drinking water extraction. Because the risks of these unconventional hydrocarbon drillings are unknown and possibly uncontrollable, it is necessary to protect the bodies of groundwater suitable for drinking water for human consumption with a ban.
