ICES Fish stomach content datasets
Description
The ICES Fish predator/prey database (ICES stomach content database) consists of data collected and reported by 7 different countries in the North Sea, Baltic, and the Arctic Ocean, spanning from 1963 to 2014. A total of 70928 analyzed stomachs are reported, of which more than half are cod stomachs. The North Sea data, derive from the North Sea Year of the Stomach program, while Baltic data derive from the Baltic Year of the Stomach program and the EU Baltic Stomach tender (EU Tender No MARE/2012/02) program. The database also contains historical Latvian data spanning from 1963 to 2014.
The project has received funding from the EU Framework Contract for the Studies providing scientific advice in support of the Common Fisheries Policy in the Baltic Sea and North Sea EU waters (SANoBA) in 2022.
The dataset contains measurements of the predators (species, length, weight, age, maturity), of the analyzed stomachs (stomach weight, stomach fullness) and of the prey (species, length, weight, digestion stage).
