Icelandic forests and other wooded land
Description
This metadata refer to the forest and other wooded land for the whole of Iceland and for municipalities, as produced from national surveys and data collection. It includes the distribution of cultivated forests and natural birch forests. Cultivated forests are mapped every year. Data on each year's plantings are placed in a harmonised database where various information is recorded. Natural birch was produced from a survey of natural birch across Iceland carried out from 2010 to 2014 by employees of the Forestry of the State. The map distinguishes between birch scrub and birch forest, i.e. what the birch looks like when full growth is reached. The definition of birch forest assumes that the average height of a mapped plot reaches two metres of maturity, while the average height of birch scrub is lower than two metres of maturity.
