Geothermal map – Expected temperatures in depth of 2 000 m
Description
The underground geothermal conditions, regardless of the position of the aquifers, are shown with suitable geothermal maps. This map represents the expected temperatures at a depth of 2 000 m and is made with data from 240 wells. It is made on the basis of measured temperatures in accessible wells throughout the country. However, since the temperature field depends on the geological composition in depths and tectonic characteristics, the course of isotherms is the result of numerous influences such as thermal conductivity of rocks, permeability and cracking of rocks, all of which are reflected in measured well temperatures. At this depth, radiogenic heat in rocks also has a minor influence. The distribution of wells, which were useful for temperature measurements, is very uneven and varies in depth. After temperatures in the depth of 2 000 m, there is a stronger positive anomaly in the north-eastern part of Slovenia, from the line Maribor-Rogatec to the east, while in the eastern part of the Krško basin the anomaly is no longer so noticeable. In the northeast part of the country, this is due to the thinner Earth’s crust and the higher conductive heat flow from the Earth’s mantle.
