Natural soil fertility

Description

The assessment of the soil subfunction ‘habitat’ is based, inter alia, on the criterion ‘natural soil fertility’. Natural soil fertility is the natural productive capacity of the soil in its function for higher plants. This does not take into account the extent to which the yield performance depends on the management and plant species. The assessment of "natural soil fertility" is carried out by assessing the usable field capacity in the effective root space. The characteristics for this are, among other things: Soil type of the fine soil, coarse soil fractions, rooting depth, usable field capacity, soil density and humus contents of the soil. For the derivation of soil fertility, the horizon and layer data of the guide profiles of the FIS soil are used. In addition, the forest area and the grassland area have been integrated for soil assessment. Soils under forest use receive a supplement to the rooting depth, grassland soils receive a discount. Soils with a high slope receive valuation discounts. The assessment does not directly assess the terrain position and climatic site conditions, although they are relevant to agricultural yield performance.
