Climate change report 2009
Description
In the 2009 Climate Action Report, the Federal Environment Agency analyses the sectoral emission trends up to 2007 and presents the objectives of the European Union's climate and energy package for 2020 for Austria. Analyses of emission scenarios show that further measures in the area of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources will be necessary to achieve these goals. In 2007, greenhouse gas emissions in Austria amounted to 88 million. tons. Taking into account the reductions resulting from the use of flexible mechanisms and from new forestation and deforestation, there is a need for reductions of around 8.1 million tonnes in order to achieve the Kyoto target. Compared with the sectoral objectives of the climate strategy, the transport and industrial and manufacturing sectors showed the largest deviations, with space heating and small-scale consumption falling below them for the first time.
