Working on Vitality

Description

In the Work on Vitality research, an integrated approach to health promotion at work (based on the Lombardy Workplace Health Promotion Network, assessed as European Good Practice) was adapted to the Dutch work context and evaluated. The research can be divided into 3 parts, 1) the development of the integrated approach, 2) the evaluation of the integrated approach and 3) sitting and vitality. For part 1, qualitative data was collected to gain insight into success and failure factors for participation in and implementation of health-promoting activities at work. To this end, peer-to-peer interviews were conducted among employees and focus groups with employers (HR professionals, managers, prevention staff). Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected for section 2. Participants in the cluster randomized controlled trial completed an online questionnaire 3 times (zero measurement, 6 months and 12 months follow-up). These were questions about general lifestyle, exercise, nutrition, mental balance, smoking, health and well-being. Questions about experiences with and opinions about the integrated approach were also answered. In addition, interviews were conducted with employees, HR professionals and managers to gain insight into the implementation process of the integrated approach. For part 3, participants carried an accelerometer twice to gain insight into exercise behaviour, including sitting (during work).
