Breeding area model for pike 2012
Description
A model describing the likely breeding areas of the pike, i.e. the presence of small chicks, on the southern and south-west coast of Finland. In the VELMU (in 2004-2009) and NANNUT projects (2010), the performance data of small chicks was collected in a total of 300 research fields on the southern and south-west coast of Finland. In May-June, the prevalence of juveniles was surveyed in research areas in reeds using the white plate and bucket method. For modelling, water visual depth (Secchi depth) and other environmental parameters were measured. A logistical regression model was adapted to the data, in which the visual depth explains the appearance of small chicks in the pike. The model was predicated from the measured values of vision to an interpolated coastal surface and was cut with reed position data (interpreted from satellite images).
This data is suitable for examining the location and extent of breeding areas (small juveniles) of the pike on the south and south-west coast of Finland. The data can be used as additional information on coastal zone planning, zoning, etc., as knowledge of reproductive areas helps to plan and protect the use of coastal areas.
