Flood mapping of Lake Mälaren
Description
The flood mapping for Lake Mälaren has been developed within the government assignment, Consequences of a Flood in Lake Mälaren, Fö2010/560/SSK. The assignment was to analyse and assess the consequences of a flood in Lake Mälaren on various sectors of society. In order to carry out the assignment, several different analytical methods are used. Among other things, a number of GIS analyses have been made based on a flood mapping of Lake Mälaren.
The flood mapping for Lake Mälaren refers only to Lake Mälaren, not to run watercourses, etc. Lake Mälaren has in this mapping been considered a “flat” lake. No hydraulic model has been created. The mapping shows the distribution of Lake Mälaren from the mean water level, + 0.9 m in RH2000, and for each decimeter range up to the theoretical highest level, + 3.1 m in RH2000.
The basis for the mapping is the National Altitude Model, http://www.lantmateriet.se/sv/Kartor-och-geografisk-information/Hojddata/GSD-Hojddata-grid-2/, developed by Lantmäteriet.
In addition to the distribution of water at different water levels, the flood mapping also includes data that enables the development of water depth at different water levels as well as information on potentially enclosed areas at different water levels. Potentially enclosed areas are areas that are under the water surface of Lake Mälaren but which according to the elevation model are not in direct contact with Lake Mälaren. These are, for example, areas that are inside a grassland.
