Description

The continuous NAP -20 meter is a simplification of the physical NAP -20 meter isobath. The physical or actual NAP -20 meter is very erratic and can change under the influence of sand transport due to currents and waves. That is why the continuous NAP -20 meter isobath was chosen. It is recorded in coordinates and does not change. The continuous NAP -20 meter line was already implemented for Zeeland in 1993 in the 'Policy Plan Voordelta', which was also signed by LNV, and for the rest of the coast in the 'Regional Exploration Plan North Sea' in 2004 and in the 'Space Note' in 2005/6. In the Note on Space, the term 'seaward boundary of the coastal foundation' is attached to this. The location of the continuous NAP -20 meter depth line has been established in consultation between V&W, LNV and VROM and recorded in coordinates in the "geopakhuis" at RWS Noordzee. The NAP -20 meter is not randomly selected. In the Delta region and in the Wadden area, the submarine coastal slope turns into the flatter seabed at that depth. Locally this is somewhat complicated by ebb deltas and sandbanks, but it is a good choice as a boundary for the coastal system. In addition, on the basis of the continuous NAP -20 meter isobath at 2 km seaward, a line has been defined to limit the large-scale sand extraction.
