State of the art for ferrous metal processing plants
Description
The report of the Federal Environment Agency describes the state of the art of plants for ferrous metal processing as well as plants in Austria. In addition to the description of the technologies used (processing of steel by hot rolling, cold rolling, wire drawing as well as continuous and discontinuous hot-dip galvanizing), the legal framework, plant-specific consumption and emission data and measures for emission reduction are described. Environmentally relevant emissions arise mainly during the heating and heat treatment of steel and when pickling steel surfaces with acids. In addition, the energy consumption of the stoves is relevant. The pollutants released are nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, dust, heavy metals and acid vapours in the exhaust air, as well as heavy metals, hydrocarbons and solids in cooling and wastewater.
