Description
Areas of activity are geographical area boundaries reported with data on the number of employees, number of establishments, largest industry (at department level according to SNI 2007) and area.
A field of activity may consist of either a concentration of several establishments, which together form a geographically defined area, or an area characterised by large-scale and industrial land use and having at least one establishment. An area of activity is at least 3 hectares large.
Examples of areas of activity are airports, mines and quarries, areas of industry, commerce, business parks, technical facilities and logistics, or areas with colleges, universities and healthcare facilities. Business areas are complementary to the data set of trading areas. These two types of area can overlap geographically.
Business areas may overlap with other types of area boundaries from Statistics Sweden, such as agglomerations and small towns. Areas of activity are published every five years from 2015. Business areas replace the previous data set of workplace areas outside urban areas, which were developed for the years 2005 and 2010.
