Geological 3D-model of Lower Saxony’s lower subsurface (WMS Dienst)
Description
The geological 3D model of the lower subsurface of Lower Saxony was created on the basis of the “Geotectonic Atlas of Northwest Germany and the German North Sea” (GTA). From the two-dimensional structural plans of 14 stratigraphic units of the GTA, base surfaces and, where possible, body enveloping surfaces from the base Zechstein to the tertiary were modelled. The aim was to create the most faithful, three-dimensional image of the GTA. The representation as a 3D model also makes it easy to recognise contradictions such as layer overlaps.
The quaternary base and a digital terrain model complement the database.
The 3D model corresponds to the level of knowledge of the 1996 Geotectonic Atlas. Newer drilling and seismic data have not been integrated.
