Significant water levels of the Danube and the March
Description
Since 1940, the so-called characteristic water levels of the Austrian Danube (KWD) have been determined. As the responsible hydrographic service, viadonau is responsible for measuring, processing and illustrating the comprehensive data on the Danube. The latest edition of the characteristic water levels, the KWD 2020, represents for the first time the approximately 350 km long Austrian Danube route with the help of two-dimensional hydrodynamic modelling, for which extremely accurate illustrations of the water geometry including hydraulic structures such as groynes and tailings were used. The outflow values relevant for determining the characteristic water levels are based on measurement data from a period of 30 years (1991 to 2020).
The characteristic water levels are a decisive data basis for maintenance, shipping and ecology.
In addition, the characteristic water levels of March 2018 (KWM 2018) will be made available.
