Energy subsurface

Description

This map contains 1 line, which separates North and South Zeeland. The border is at the level of the Oosterschelde. For both geothermal energy and gas extraction (Schaliegas, ECBM), there is (globally) potential in the deep subsurface north of the Oosterschelde for these techniques. South of this line, the potential is zero. This has everything to do with geology (composition and genesis history of existing layer packs). Potential means that in theory there are possibilities for the development of these techniques, but that is accompanied by many uncertainties. These uncertainties are greater than in other parts of the Netherlands. This is because in the past, due to the absence of oil and gas, little research has been done by the oil and gas industry in Zeeland. So there is little information available about the deep subsurface. Before concrete projects can be developed, additional and in-depth studies are necessary.
