Description

The cantons are obliged, in accordance with federal legislation on forest and hydraulic engineering, to record the natural hazards and to take them into account in spatially effective activities. For this purpose, hazard maps or hazard warning cards must be drawn up in cooperation with the municipalities. Hazard maps are created primarily within the settlement areas and map the potential hazards caused by floods, fall and slip processes in detail. Hazard maps provide information about the hazard type and hazard level (yellow, blue, red, yellow-white-clad), which is a combination of the intensity level (weak, medium, strong) and the probability of occurrence (annualities 30, 100, 300, extreme event). The hazard maps must be implemented by the municipalities in the zoning and use planning and must be taken into account as a binding basis for construction projects. The hazard maps for the entire canton area were revised in 2017.
