Implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury in Austria.
Description
The Minamata Convention on Mercury obliges Austria to implement and implement emission reduction and monitoring measures. This report builds on that of 2016 and provides an overview of the mercury problem in Austria and worldwide. The data on global mercury pollution will be discussed, inter alia, with regard to emissions, concentrations and causes of formation and release, as well as reflections on the effectiveness assessment of the agreement. Current Austrian studies and monitoring activities on mercury in the environment and in humans are described. Furthermore, applications of mercury and developments in industry and around contaminated sites are discussed and potential fields of action are identified.
