Pollen and spores as indicators of climate change at the Jura/Creide border

Description

Palynological investigations on a drill profile in the northeast of NRW – The layers of the deep lower chalk (Berriasium, 145 – 139, 8 million y.h.) were formed in Northwest Germany in a special brackish environment and rich in organic matter (Wealden facies). They are therefore potential carriers of hydrocarbons. The core hole 1/08 Husen of DG NRW developed an 88 m thick sequence of these sediments. They were studied palyno-, microfacially and geochemically to reconstruct their deposition conditions and provide an assessment of hydrocarbon potential. The results allow an interpretation of the ecology of the time and allow the reconstruction of trans- and regression trends. It is shown that the Palynofazies analysis can be used for a sequence-stratigraphic analysis. In addition, there is the opportunity to study a change of piles in the law/Creath border area.
