Elements of the Osning interference zone (NW-Germany)
Description
The Osning fault zone forms a 200 km long plaice rim that borders the Lower Saxony Basin in the south and separates it from the Münsterland Basin. Their structure and movement mechanisms are analysed in this work on the basis of leaf shift tectonics. As superordinate structures of the leaf shift zone, five sub-segments can be spun off from the Gronau segment in the northwest to the Falkenhagen segment in the southeast. Between the individual segments, as a result of predominantly constricting tectonic west – east-stroking pine folds such as the Rothenfelde, Ochtrup and Waldhügel saddles were created as connecting structures. These can be seen as evidence of a north-south-facing paleostress field during the Upper Cretaceous period.
