Families and landscape ensembles in Auvergne
Description
This data set constitutes the GIS layer of families and landscape ensembles in Auvergne that results from the “Atlas of Landscapes” approach carried out by DREAL Auvergne and published in 2014.
The sets of landscapes extend over territories of one or several tens of kilometres and are perceived on this scale. They describe landscapes as their own name. A set of landscapes is therefore a part of territory with a relatively homogeneous appearance. It differs from others and is clearly identified by certain peculiarities closely or by far related to geomorphology, plant formations, various human practices, more or less recent (food, agricultural, forestry, industrial, tourism, safety, symbolic...), constructions, lifestyles...
The family map offers nine categories, to distinguish the great types of landscapes that one encounters in Auvergne. This typology takes into account topographic and ecological criteria, more than a rural/urban distinction, and proposes to link each city or agglomeration to a specific landscape background.
