European Water Framework Directive (WFD): Surface Water Bodies (OWC) Management Objectives, 2009-2015 Management Cycle
Description
The maps contain the management objectives of WFD-relevant surface water bodies in the Free State of Thuringia (flowing waters with catchment area > 10 km2, standing waters > 50 ha), which are to be achieved by 2015.
According to the status assessment, causes of water deficits were analysed and target values were set, which ultimately resulted in measures and management objectives.
For natural surface water bodies, good ecological status and good chemical status are to be achieved. Artificial and significantly modified surface water bodies shall be managed in such a way as to achieve good ecological potential and good chemical status. The WFD grants the application of derogations. This allows measures to be planned according to their urgency and to improve the status of surface water bodies over several planning cycles. Thuringia will be in the 1. make use of time extensions as an exception in the management cycle. Reasons for the use of deadline extensions are that technical feasibility is only possible in steps, implementation by 2015 would lead to disproportionately high costs or natural circumstances do not allow a timely improvement of the situation.
