WFS - Starvation Stones and Shallows
Description
The constant fluctuations in river water levels are natural consequences of climatic variability, although extreme events such as flood disasters or extreme low water represent incisive hydrological phenomena. Traditionally, numerous hints and fixed markings on site remind us of these historical events. Such silent witnesses also exist for low-water events as so-called ‘hungerstones’ or ‘slopes’. This map contains well-known starvation stones and shallows of the Elbe, which are created in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Jan-Michael Lange and Mr. Martin Kaden von Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden.
