Calcification areas in Saxony in 1989
Description
The dataset contains the forest areas (calcification areas) in the Free State of Saxony, which were limed as part of soil protection limestone in 1989. The amount of the applied natural limestone in tonnes per hectare, the date of implementation and the type of forest ownership (land forest, private forest, etc.) are given at the time of limescale. Soil protection limestone has been carried out annually in Saxony since 1986 in order to compensate for the deep acidification of forest soils and prevent forest damage. On the basis of soil analyses and forest location conditions, the amount of limescale per calcification area is determined and the natural limestone is applied by plane or helicopter between 1 July and 31 October. The data form the basis for the digital scaling execution card for Saxony.
