Map service Geographical Nomenclature of the Balearic Islands

Description

The Geographical Nomenclature Service of the Balearic Islands (NGIB) offers the toponymy of the Balearic Islands represented by point objects (named place). Among other things, it contains a field called GRAPHICS with the spelling of the preferred geographical name, it also contains other relevant information such as the source of the data, the reference scale or the level of normalization. Toponyms are classified into topics such as administrative units, constructions, populations, transportation network, hydrography, geographic features, and protected areas, and so on. Each named place has one or more geographical names and each name may have one or more pronunciations that are in related tables. The data model adopted follows the INSPIRE model which has been expanded with other additional information. Its main sources of departure are the Topographic Map of the Balearic Islands at a scale of 1: 5000, the Nomenclature of Toponymy of the Balearic Islands and the Nomenclature of Toponymy of Menorca. Other place names will be added in the future to complete this database.
