Description
Greenhouse horticulture is a form of protected cultivation where use is made of a greenhouse in which glass (or some plastics) forms the barrier between the outside air, an uncontrollable atmosphere and the controlled air in the building. This allows flowers and vegetables to be grown under conditions that are beneficial to those plants. Glass is used because it allows sunlight to pass through, essential for the growth of the plants. In Overijssel, greenhouse horticulture is concentrated in the Koekoekspolder. The Koekoekspolder is an area of approximately 500 hectares in the municipality of Kampen, where there is room for approximately 250 hectares of greenhouses.
