Description
The information contained in this data set is the distribution of the mean sampling points by means of trawls and beam bou used in the habitat characterization study carried out within the scope of the INTEMARES project (LIFE15 IPE ES 012) by the team working on the COST-SANTANDER (CSIC).
This is the representation of the spatial distribution of the midpoints of the hauls made by means of trawls and beam bou in the Avilés System of submarine cannons.
The area comprising the data provided covers the SCA SCI, with a cartographic area of about 3,390.26 km2 whose longitudinal limits are approximately 5o35' WEST - 6o40 WEST, while the latitudinal limits are approximately 43o40' N, and 44o 05', its seabed, the waters of the canyon system comprising the Avilés canyon, the Corbiro canyon and the Gaviera canyon, its tributaries, the continental shelf and the upper slope.
This set of information is structured based on the average positions of the samples made with beam bou in the campaigns with codes: A0710, A0511, carried out in the INDEMARES projects and , of those carried out with otter trawls in the campaigns with code: N10 and N11, carried out in the ERDEM project of the IEO.
It is a data set composed of point-type vector elements, where each element represents the midpoint of each sampling.Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables, which link the point to the campaign in which it was obtained, the type of sampler used etc.
The preparation of this set of geographical information started in 2021, thanks to the data of the different sampling campaigns listed above, which are contained in the corresponding report: Report on the characterisation, mapping and conservation status of the benthic habitats of the SCI- ESZZ12003 ‘Sistema de Cañones Submarinos de Avilés’ (Northern Demarcation).
The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database.
These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
