Data analysis for the treatment of mineral construction and demolition waste in Austria.

The recycling of mineral construction and demolition waste in particular has great potential to save natural resources, energy and emissions. One focus of the present study was the analysis of the fate of mineral construction and demolition waste after its treatment. To this end, the Federal Environment Agency experts used two different methods: In the bottom-up approach, an analysis of reporting data for Austria as a whole was carried out on the basis of a detailed analysis of 20 plant operators and in the top-down approach. The results of the analyses show that in 2017, after extrapolation, between 4% and 11% of the masses were deposited after treatment, the majority of which was recycled. In addition, the reports via the Central Plant Register and the annual waste balance sheet were analyzed with regard to standardized evaluability and any potential for improvement was shown.
