Nature forest reserves in Germany
Description
The database contains information on the area and number of natural forest reserves in the respective federal states in Germany: Total area in ha, pro rata area of the federal state in m² per km², total number and number of different size. They are available for 2013, 2016 and 2019. The data base is continuously collected by the forest research institutes of the federal states and provided by the Information Centre for Biological Diversity (IBV) of the Federal Institute for Agriculture and Food (BLE).
Natural forest reserves serve the protection and research of self-contained forests, teaching and environmental research. For this purpose, forestry interventions are excluded. The underlying database also contains profiles describing the individual nature forest reserves in Germany in detail with information such as year of designation, area size, tree species community, potential natural vegetation, etc.
